How to Create an Additional Web Disk Account in cPanel? (Video)

A Web Disk account allows you to manage and upload files to your hosting account using a drag-and-drop interface, similar to a network drive. If you want to provide access to others or create separate accounts for specific directories, follow these steps to create an additional Web Disk account in cPanel.

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

  1. Open your web browser and navigate to your cPanel login page (e.g., https://yourdomain.com:2083).
  2. Enter your username and password, then click Log in.

Step 2: Access the Web Disk Tool

  1. In the cPanel dashboard, scroll to the Files section.
  2. Click on Web Disk.

Step 3: Create a New Web Disk Account

  1. In the Web Disk Accounts section, look for the Create an Additional Web Disk Account form.

  2. Fill in the required fields:

    • Username: Enter a unique username for the new Web Disk account.
    • Password: Enter a strong password or use the Password Generator tool.
    • Directory: Specify the directory this account will have access to:
      • By default, the directory is set to the root (/home/username/).
      • To restrict access, select a specific directory (e.g., public_html/subfolder).
    • Permissions:
      • Read-Write: Grants full access, allowing the user to view, upload, and delete files.
      • Read-Only: Allows the user to view and download files but prevents uploads or modifications.
    • Enable Digest Authentication (Optional): Enable this if you’re using an older operating system that doesn’t support encrypted connections.
  3. Click Create to finish.

Step 4: Configure the Web Disk on the User's Device

  1. Once the account is created, cPanel provides configuration scripts and instructions for various operating systems (e.g., Windows, macOS, Linux).
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the Web Disk account on your or the user's computer.
  3. Download the configuration script (if applicable) and run it to streamline the setup.

Step 5: Test the New Web Disk Account

  1. After setting up the Web Disk account on the device, test the connection:
    • Open the Web Disk folder in the file manager on your computer.
    • Ensure the user can access the specified directory and perform the allowed actions (read/write or read-only).

Tips for Managing Web Disk Accounts

  • Use Strong Passwords: Ensure the account password is strong to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Limit Permissions: Assign Read-Only permissions when users don’t need to modify files.
  • Update Permissions or Directories: If needed, edit the Web Disk account later via the Web Disk tool in cPanel.

By creating an additional Web Disk account in cPanel, you can provide secure and organized file access to specific directories for other users or purposes, enhancing your hosting account's functionality.
