How to Create an Addon Domain in cPanel? (Video)

An Addon Domain allows you to host multiple websites on the same hosting account. Each addon domain is treated as a separate domain with its own website files and email addresses.

Here’s how to create an addon domain in cPanel:

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

  1. Open your browser and go to your cPanel login page (e.g., https://yourdomain.com:2083).
  2. Enter your username and password, then click Log in.

Step 2: Access the Addon Domains Tool

  1. Scroll down to the Domains section in the cPanel dashboard.
  2. Click on Addon Domains.

Step 3: Add a New Addon Domain

  1. In the Create an Addon Domain section, fill in the following details:
    • New Domain Name: Enter the domain name you want to add (e.g., example.com).
    • Subdomain: This is created automatically when you enter the domain name. You can modify it if needed.
    • Document Root: Specify the directory where the website files for this domain will be stored (e.g., /public_html/example.com).
  2. Check the box for Create an FTP account associated with this Addon Domain if you want to create an FTP account for this domain.
    • Enter the FTP username and password if creating an FTP account.

Step 4: Click Add Domain

  1. After entering all the details, click Add Domain.
  2. cPanel will create the addon domain and set up its directory.

Step 5: Upload Website Files

  1. Use the File Manager or an FTP client to upload the website files for the addon domain to the specified document root (e.g., /public_html/example.com).

Step 6: Update DNS Settings

  1. Log in to your domain registrar and update the nameservers for the new addon domain to match those of your hosting provider.
    • Example: ns1.yourhostingprovider.com and ns2.yourhostingprovider.com.
  2. Allow up to 24-48 hours for DNS propagation.

Step 7: Test the Addon Domain

  1. After DNS propagation, visit the addon domain (e.g., http://example.com) in your browser.
  2. Confirm that the website loads correctly.

Tips for Creating an Addon Domain

  • Plan File Organization: Store addon domain files in a dedicated subdirectory to avoid confusion with other websites on your account.
  • Check Hosting Limits: Ensure your hosting plan supports addon domains and check the maximum number allowed.
  • Secure Your Site: Set up SSL/TLS for the addon domain to ensure secure connections.

By creating an Addon Domain in cPanel, you can host multiple websites on the same account, saving costs and centralizing management.
