How to Redirect your website to any page or external domain? (Video)

Redirecting your website to a specific page or an external domain is simple with cPanel. You can set up a 301 Permanent Redirect or a 302 Temporary Redirect depending on your needs.

Follow the steps below to create the redirect:

Step 1: Log in to cPanel

  1. Open your web browser and navigate to your cPanel login page (e.g., https://yourdomain.com:2083).
  2. Enter your username and password, then click Log in.

Step 2: Access the Redirects Tool

  1. Scroll down to the Domains section in the cPanel dashboard.
  2. Click on Redirects.

Step 3: Set Up the Redirect

  1. In the Add Redirect section, configure the following settings:
    • Type:
      • Select Permanent (301) if the redirection is permanent. This is better for SEO.
      • Select Temporary (302) if the redirection is temporary.
    • Redirects From:
      • Choose the domain or subdomain you want to redirect from the dropdown menu (e.g., example.com or blog.example.com).
      • You can also specify a directory or page within the domain (e.g., /oldpage).
    • Redirects To:
      • Enter the URL where you want to redirect visitors. This can be a page on your website or an external URL (e.g., https://www.newdomain.com or https://www.example.com/newpage).
    • www Redirect:
      • Only Redirect with www.: Redirects only visitors using the www version of your domain.
      • Redirect with or without www.: Redirects all visitors, whether they use www or not.
      • Do Not Redirect www.: Redirects only visitors not using the www version.

Step 4: Add the Redirect

  1. Click Add to save the redirect.
  2. The redirect will now appear in the Current Redirects section.

Step 5: Test the Redirect

  1. Open a browser and enter the original domain or URL you set to be redirected.
  2. Verify that it redirects to the correct page or external domain.

Optional: Remove or Edit a Redirect

  1. To modify or delete a redirect:
    • Go to the Redirects page in cPanel.
    • Locate the redirect in the Current Redirects section.
    • Click Edit to modify or Delete to remove the redirect.

Tips for Setting Up Redirects

  • Use SEO-Friendly Redirects: Choose 301 Permanent Redirects for long-term redirections to maintain search engine rankings.
  • Ensure Correct URLs: Double-check the destination URL to avoid broken links.
  • Monitor Changes: Test redirects regularly to confirm they are functioning as expected.

By setting up a redirect in cPanel, you can seamlessly forward visitors to any page or external domain, ensuring a smooth user experience and effective traffic management.
