How to Access or Connect to Your FTP Account via the FileZilla FTP? (Video)

Using FileZilla, you can securely access your FTP account to upload, download, or manage files on your hosting server.

Follow these steps to connect to your FTP account using FileZilla:


Step 1: Open FileZilla

  1. Launch the FileZilla FTP Client on your computer.

Step 2: Gather FTP Account Details

Before connecting, ensure you have the following details:

  1. Host: The hostname or IP address of your server (e.g., ftp.yourdomain.com or your server’s IP address).
  2. Username: The FTP account username.
  3. Password: The password for the FTP account.
  4. Port:
    • Use 21 for FTP.

Step 3: Connect Using Quickconnect

  1. At the top of the FileZilla interface, locate the Quickconnect bar.

    • Host: Your server’s hostname or IP.
    • Username: Your FTP username.
    • Password: Your FTP password.
    • Port: Enter 21 (FTP) or 22 (SFTP).
  3. Click Quickconnect.

Step 4: Verify the Connection

  1. FileZilla will attempt to connect to your server.
  2. If successful, the interface will display:
    • Local Site: Files and directories on your computer (left panel).
    • Remote Site: Files and directories on your server (right panel).
  3. If prompted to trust a certificate (for SFTP connections), review the details and click OK to proceed.

Step 5: Transfer Files

  1. To Upload Files:
    • Navigate to the desired folder on your server (right panel).
    • Drag and drop files from your local site (left panel) to the remote site (right panel).
  2. To Download Files:
    • Navigate to the desired folder on the server (right panel).
    • Drag and drop files to your local directory (left panel).

Step 6: Save FTP Details in the Site Manager (Optional)

  1. Click on File > Site Manager from the FileZilla menu.
  2. Click New Site and enter your FTP details:
    • Host, Username, Password, Port, and Connection Type (FTP or SFTP).
  3. Click OK to save.
  4. Use the Site Manager to quickly reconnect in the future.

Step 7: Disconnect When Finished

  1. After completing your file transfers, click Server > Disconnect to safely end the session.
  2. Close FileZilla if you’re done.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Authentication Failed: Double-check your username, password, and host details in cPanel’s FTP Accounts.
  • Timeout Issues: Increase the connection timeout under Edit > Settings > Connection.
  • Firewall/Antivirus: Ensure your firewall or antivirus isn’t blocking FileZilla.
